Whenever you look at old photos or talk to family members about events in the past, your mind starts to bring back more and more information about those memories as your brain process’s those thoughts.
I read this in a book called 'How to write the Story of your Life' by Frank Thomas, and I know it is true.
When a cousin of mine sent me a few DVD’s of old family photos he had scanned I was thrilled to run on to this picture. This picture was taken in an old neighborhood in Chicago where my grandmother lived just 10 minutes from downtown. I spent my summers here in my younger years as my grandmother was my babysitter because both of my parents worked. As I look at this picture I remember the times my grandmother and I would walk down these streets to go shopping at the stores on Blue Island Ave.
I will never know who took this picture but I can guess it was my aunt, my dad’s sister that had it stored in a box all these years. Anyway I am very thankful that now I finally got a copy.
I started working gathering all of my family photographs and compiling them into a family website in January 2002 shortly after my mother passed away.
I am a software engineer by trade so it was easy to put together a website to store, share, and maintain all of our family memories in.
Over the years I have been asked lots of questions about managing family photos, videos, etc… so I decided to publish some of my thoughts on how to manage those family memories.
I am even going to include some code snippets that I used while making this website and managing all of my photos.
Now is the perfect time to start rounding up all of those old family photos for your family website before it is too late!
